Basics And Elements Of Communication That Blogger Should Know

Communication Basics
Basically, communication is the process of delivering a message from the sender to the recipient via a channel to produce the desired effect by using common symbol. Symbols are used to be a written language, pictures, music and so forth.

COMMUNICATION BASICS AND ELEMENTS

Communication Elements
In communication process there are 5 basic elements, namely:
  1. Sources of information (communicator)
  2. Message
  3. Communication channels (media)
  4. Recipient of information (communicant)
  5. The impact or effect and feedback
Source
Is a person who initially provide communication action or give a message to the recipient, sender of the message also called communicator. In making and give the message to the recipient then there was a coding process, namely the process of translating the idea into common symbol or familiar (word, language, images and so forth) into a message that is easily understood. Sources of information can be individuals or institutions that begin the communication process.

Message
Messages are information to be conveyed by the sender to the recipient. The message conveyed can be verbal messages which are all types of oral communication that uses words, can also be non-verbal messages such as body language (facial expression, posture, tone of voice, hand movements, how to dress and so on), music, dance or sign language.

Channel
This element is a medium or medium used, so that messages can be delivered by the source to the recipient. Channel is often called the method of communication. Channels of communication may be simple, such as use of words or sounds, but also the process can not be simple. For instance, suppose a candidate for mayor who uses TV to campaign at the city level, can also use various media such as leaflets, picture cards and so forth.

Recipient
Are the people who receive messages from the communicator, often called as the communicant. When receiving a message from the sender, the process of reinterpreting the messages received is called encoding. Decoding process is strongly influenced by perceptions and socio-cultural background of the communicant.

Impact or effect or result
Impact is what is desired by the sender or communicator of the message or information that has been delivered or sent.

Feedback
Feedback refers to any information obtained back to the sender from the recipient. Benefits of feedback:
  • Can help the source in determining the success of his communication
  • Sources can reinforce the message or change its strategy, based on feedback received
  • Can be used to plan a more successful communications in the future
When giving feedback communicant also eventually act as a communicator who gave the message to the communicator first. So actually both communicators and communicants is a source of information and each giving and receiving messages simultaneously and at the same time the process affect each other.

Thus, a blog can also be referred to as a medium of communication, in which, the blog contains messages or information provided, and given from a blogger as a source, for readers of the blog as a recipient of the message. So that a blogger should also understand the basics of communication.
